Virtual programming to help youth succeed
Now more than ever, the programs that BGC Canada (formerly Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada) run are vital to ensuring that our communities can thrive by supporting the youth who need it most.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, most BGC Canada locations had to close their physical doors to the community, limiting valuable resources that so many youth across Canada rely on. With a TELUS Friendly Future Foundation grant of $100,000, they have been able to adapt and build virtual programs to help support a multitude of developmental skills that young people need to succeed.
From fostering safe social and digital skills to promoting mental health resilience, the TELUS Friendly Future Foundation has been able to support their pivot online and help them reach their goal of providing youth from coast to coast with 30,000 hours of virtual programming and live support.
BGC Canada are committed to supporting the most vulnerable in our communities and will continue to offer services, resources, and programs for those who need them most. With our support, Canadian youth can continue to access these key resources and gain confidence through skill-development initiatives.
“BGC Canada connects young people with peers and caring adults. With physical distancing measures in place, maintaining that connection is more important than ever,” says Owen Charters, President & CEO, Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada. “We are excited to partner with the TELUS Friendly Future Foundation—their timeliness and generosity means more of our Clubs can pivot to virtual programming and online support, reaching more families across the country.”
As communities begin to find a new normal during these unprecedented times, the importance of connection is critical. By providing support to BGC Canada, we can ensure that all Canadian youth stay engaged, develop new skills and achieve new goals in life through online support.
