Making wellness resources accessible for children from marginalized communities

Nov 15, 2021

Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, Start2Finish Canada has been on the front lines helping youth cope with mental health challenges and making wellness resources accessible for young Canadians from marginalized communities. Their pilot program, Brainworx!, emerged from the pandemic to integrate virtual and in-person interaction with online and mobile app technology. The program employs technology to bring a neuroscientific, trauma-informed and culturally responsive approach to improving children’s well-being by addressing various social determinants of health.

Through a $100,000 national grant from TELUS Friendly Future Foundation, Start2Finish’s Brainworx! will provide 5,000 grade 1-6 students from across the country with a 30-week digital learning enhancement experience. The project will create a safe and nurturing environment for children to learn and thrive.

Brainworx! will help address the ‘collateral damage’ that COVID-19 has caused to the mental and physical health of Canada's children, empowering them to build critical social-emotional agencies like resilience, self-regulation and self-efficacy that will prepare them for success both during and beyond the pandemic.
