Keeping youth patients fighting leukemia and lymphoma connected and informed through a new podcast series
Sep 8, 2020
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada has a dual mission of finding a cure for leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma while improving quality of life for patients and their families affected by blood cancers at any stage of life.
“Our podcast project for youth patients affected by blood cancer will create a connection, validate feelings and difficulties experienced and create a sense of being better understood”
During COVID-19, the Society’s in-person group meetings that normally provide important safety information and patient support were no longer viable. With a $12,500 grant from the TELUS Friendly Future Foundation, it was able to launch a podcast series designed specifically for youth patients, to help ensure that those with compromised immune systems still receive vital safety information and support while physically isolated.
Featuring topics such as relapse anxiety, long-term side effects and effective communication with family and friends, these informative podcasts allow patients to continue obtaining the health-focused and recovery guidance they need.
Thanks to this TELUS Friendly Future Foundation grant, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada’s new podcast series will help keep youth fighting leukemia & lymphoma informed and connected.
“Our podcast project for youth patients affected by blood cancer will create a connection, validate feelings and difficulties experienced and create a sense of being better understood,” said Director of Community Services, Nadine Prévost. “Thank you to the TELUS Friendly Future Foundation for not neglecting this group of people with difficult challenges of their own.”
An estimated two-thirds of blood cancer survivors will experience long-term side effects, direct consequences of their cancer as well as chemotherapy or radiation therapy. Thanks to this TELUS Friendly Future Foundation grant, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada’s new podcast series will help keep youth fighting leukemia & lymphoma informed and connected. Together, we can continue to focus on ensuring healthier communities and keeping everyone connected when needed most.
